Launched in August 2019 through an open national call for tenders, SODECOTON — the Cotton Development Corporation and economic backbone of Cameroon's Far North, a Sahelian region — decided, as part of its development and modernization strategy, to build a new headquarters worthy of its ambitions.
Our project, winner of this competition, was built around the following principles:
Respect for the region's architectural heritage
Consideration of local climatic constraints
A nod to the shape of the cotton seed within the architecture
All of this is summarized in the following architectural approach:
Creation of a building that appears closed from the outside, yet opens onto a large landscaped central courtyard with water fountains.
Fountains within the patios bring a sense of coolness reminiscent of an oasis.
Sun-shading elements in the form of curved metal cladding wrap the building, evoking the shape of a cotton boll.
Solar panels installed across a dedicated area of approximately 3,000 m², as well as on all covered parking roofs, make the most of the region's abundant sunshine to power the gardens, offices and common areas.
